Cogeneration

Cogeneration, or combined heat and power generation, is a technological process in which a single fuel is used to simultaneously produce electricity and usable heat. It is one of the most efficient methods of energy management.

When electricity is generated in a power plant, a huge amount of heat is produced as a by-product. In coal-fired power plants, this heat is released into the atmosphere through cooling towers without being used. The efficiency of such a process is usually only 30-45%. A cogeneration unit does not release heat, but instead captures it through a heat exchanger for further use.
